Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
